Become An Activist

Due to the current COVID-19 crisis, we will not be promoting any new organisations/events/movements to attend or take part in for the time being, due to the importance of adhering to social distancing and quarantining measures. Instead, if you wish to remain pro-active and altruistic during this time, we encourage you to find out how you can support your local governing health care service (e.g. the NHS) through their online pages and the Black Lives Matter movement, due to the current situation in America.

Alternatively, you can contribute to our upcoming mental health COVID-19 support project. For more information, read out call-out letter for help here.

The ice caps are melting, the amazon is burning, micro plastics are being found in the arctic ice and in the seafood we eat. Our political and physical climate are a mess. Have you had enough? Upcoming activist movements and events to attend and partake in will be advertised here monthly so that you can get involved and can stand up for what you believe in.

The Room – Psy is not working in partnership or by paid sponsorship with any of these organisations unless explicitly stated. This section is just to provide a unique selection of activism movements around the world that ‘The Room –Psy’ feels are important to promote and support.

YOUNG MINDS

“We’re leading the fight for a future where all young minds are supported and empowered, whatever the challenges. We’re here to make sure they get the best possible mental health support and have the resilience to overcome life’s difficulties.

The crisis in children and young people’s mental health is real and it is urgent. More children and young people than ever before are reaching out for help with their mental health. But for those who take that brave step, help is much too hard to find.

Together, we are changing this. We’re fighting for young people’s mental health. Join our fight.”

Sunrise movement

Sunrise is a movement to stop climate change and create millions of good jobs in the process.

We're building an army of young people to make climate change an urgent priority across America, end the corrupting influence of fossil fuel executives on our politics, and elect leaders who stand up for the health and wellbeing of all people.

We are ordinary young people who are scared about what the climate crisis means for the people and places we love. We are gathering in classrooms, living rooms, and worship halls across the country. Everyone has a role to play. Public opinion is already with us - if we unite by the millions we can turn this into political power and reclaim our democracy.

We are not looking to the right or left. We look forward. Together, we will change this country and this world, sure as the sun rises each morning.

The September 20th Climate Strike was the largest day of action for climate justice ever. On December 6th, as world leaders gather at the UN’s annual climate conference, young people across America will join a national #ClimateStrike to take the momentum from September to our elected officials’ doorsteps.

Find a strike near you or organize your own!”

Stride for Mental Health Awareness

“Our 6th Annual Stride for Mental Health Awareness is right around the corner! This years event will be held May 16, 2020 from 1pm – 4pm at Warminster Community Park (via the Special Events entrance on Bristol Road) in Warminster, PA. We walk to raise awareness, to end the stigma that surrounds mental health, and to raise the funds necessary to support our education and support program expansion throughout Bucks County. There is help, there is hope, and until there’s a cure, there’s NAMI!

OUR PROMISE

NAMI promises to build better lives for all Bucks County residents affected by mental illness.

OUR PASSION

Because mental illness impacts the lives of 1 in 4 adults and 1 in 5 teens, NAMI will work every day to save every life.

OUR PEOPLE

Hundreds of supporters of the NAMI Stride are the face and voice of our mental health movement—peers, families, coworkers, and businesses come together to celebrate mental health recovery, honor those who have lost their lives to mental illness, and to help raise funds, eliminate stigma, and promote awareness.

OUR WORK

NAMI stays focused on educating Bucks County about mental health. We are an association of local individuals and families who work in the community to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need. We currently hold 25 support groups throughout the county.

OUR SUCCESS

NAMI is the largest grassroots mental health organization and is a lifesaver to many, offering help, hope, and information to everyone affected by mental illness. NAMI members and leaders are visible, formidable advocates, owning a well-earned reputation for taking on hard battles and winning them, ensuring a national commitment to research as well as access to services and treatment that promote recovery.

JOIN OUR MENTAL HEALTH MOVEMENT!

Gather your friends, family, and coworkers, and join us for the NAMI Bucks County Stride for Mental Health Awareness in beautiful Warminster Community Park at 1pm on Saturday, May 16, 2020. Support our mission while enjoying a stigma-free walk with your friends and neighbors. Assisting the community has never been so easy or fun. Set your own personal goal and show your commitment to our cause. ALL ARE WELCOME!

There is no registration fee for the walk, however all participants must register. This will be a 5K walk, and there are ample opportunities for short cuts and to walk in place for those with mobility issues. We encourage you to collect donations from family members, friends, co-workers and business associates. All walkers raising $100 or more receive an event t-shirt.”

Amnesty International

“We work to protect people wherever justice, freedom, truth, and dignity are denied.

Amnesty International is a global movement of millions of people demanding human rights for all people – no matter who they are or where they are. We are the world’s largest grassroots human rights organization. All people have fundamental human rights. But those rights are abused or denied every single day. When that happens, Amnesty International finds the facts, exposes what’s happening, and rallies people together to force governments and others to respect everyone’s human rights.

And we get results. Last year alone, Amnesty International helped free 153 people who were wrongfully imprisoned because of who they are or what they believe – and we changed laws in dozens of countries on refugees, reproductive rights, LGBT equality, free speech, the death penalty, and other critical human rights issues.

From start to finish, our work focuses on the individual – people whose human rights are abused, and people who have the power to change the world. We received the Nobel Peace Prize for our life-saving work.”

EXTINCTION REBELLION

“Extinction Rebellion is an international movement that uses non-violent civil disobedience in an attempt to halt mass extinction and minimise the risk of social collapse. Our world is in crisis. Life itself is under threat. Yet every crisis contains the possibility of transformation. Across the world, heralded by the young, people are waking up and coming together.

We hear history calling to us from the future. We catch glimpses of a new world of love, respect and regeneration, where we have restored the intricate web of all life. It’s a future that’s inside us all – located in the fierce love we carry for our children, in our urge to help a stranger in distress, in our wish to forgive, even when that seems too much to ask. And so we rebel for this, calling in joy, creativity and beauty. We rise in the name of truth and withdraw our consent for ecocide, oppression and patriarchy. We rise up for a world where power is shared for regeneration, repair and reconciliation. We rise for love in its ultimate wisdom. Our vision stretches beyond our own lifespan, to a horizon dedicated to future generations and the restoration of our planet’s integrity. Together, our rebellion is the gift this world needs. We are XR and you are us.”

ME TOO

“The ‘me too.’ movement was founded in 2006 to help survivors of sexual violence, particularly Black women and girls, and other young women of color from low wealth communities, find pathways to healing. Our vision from the beginning was to address both the dearth in resources for survivors of sexual violence and to build a community of advocates, driven by survivors, who will be at the forefront of creating solutions to interrupt sexual violence in their communities.”

Womens Movement

“The mission of Women’s March is to harness the political power of diverse women and their communities to create transformative social change. Women’s March is a women-led movement providing intersectional education on a diverse range of issues and creating entry points for new grassroots activists & organizers to engage in their local communities through trainings, outreach programs and events. Women’s March is committed to dismantling systems of oppression through nonviolent resistance and building inclusive structures guided by self-determination, dignity and respect.”

Campaign Zero

“President Trump's administration plans to use the power of the federal government to escalate police violence and incarceration in our communities. It is essential that state and local governments step up to protect communities from harm and continue making progress towards equity and justice.”

The Vegan Society

“Founded in 1944, The Vegan Society is a registered educational charity that provides information and guidance on various aspects of veganism.”

Save the planet, save your health and save the animals. In 2019, there has never been a better time than now to #GoVegan
