Exploring the Intersection of Philosophy, Power, and Resilience: Three Poems on Wellbeing and Growth
In our journey towards better mental health and wellbeing, we often look to different fields for guidance. Psychology plays a central role, but sometimes the answers we seek are found in other disciplines, such as philosophy, social reflection, and personal resilience. These three poems by Psychology PhD Research Scholar, Samhita K, each reflect a different facet of the human condition - grappling with external forces like power and societal expectations, as well as harnessing internal strength through resilience and philosophical reflection. Together, they create a compelling and thought-provoking collection that challenges us to reflect on how we navigate life's complexities, both mentally and emotionally.

Reflection:
Sometimes, psychology does not have all the answers. And so, you are free to explore another field like philosophy. You may be able to extract some psychological wisdom from philosophical concepts like stoicism, existentialism, and so on. Because, why not? Historically speaking, philosophy and physiology gave birth to psychology.
The great German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche's formula for greatness is "amor fati" - a love of one's fate. "Ad augusta per angusta" in Latin means "to great things through narrow [or difficult] paths," or more commonly, "through difficulties to honours". Weaving these two elements together, in the last line of the poem, the poet asks the reader to flip the script from blaming one's fate to accepting it, and moving on to achieve great things.
Reflection:
Nature is filled with beauty, splendour, uniqueness, and diversity. Humans have the tendency to take Nature for granted, by using, misusing and abusing the resources. Humans engage in anti-Nature activities like deforestation, and defacement. Similar activities are manifested as fake behaviours, social discrimination, and nepotism.
P.S. You cannot "fake it until you make it!"
You'll "fake it until you flake it!"
Each of these poems by the brilliant Samhita K invites us to reflect deeply - on how we navigate life’s complexities, confront power, and summon the resilience to rise. They are more than just words; they challenge us to examine our approach to the world and our place within it, both mentally and emotionally.
To leave you with a thought:
In a world where power often seeks to control, and life’s challenges can feel overwhelming, how might you reclaim your agency, rise above, and find meaning in the struggle of your own life? And, most importantly, will you have the courage to do so?
